Minneapolis VA Health Care System
Veterans Health Identification Card (VHIC)
VA is establishing a new Veterans Health Identification Card (VHIC). The card replaces the former Veterans Identification Card (VIC).
Before a new VHIC request can be processed, Veterans will be required to provide 2 forms of ID and confirmation of current address
For VHIC status and approved identity/address documents, stop by our VHIC office located at the Eligibility & Enrollment desk within the Emergency Department, or call 612-467-2509.
Veterans do not need a VHIC/VIC card to access VA health care.
For Veterans who do not have a VIC card and want one for State of Minnesota transportation, the Minneapolis VA Medical Center will issue a temporary ID card to eligible and enrolled service-connected Veterans while the VHIC system is down.
Veterans ID Cards Available Through Community Clinics
Veterans can have their Veterans Health Identification Card (VHIC) processed remotely through the Minneapolis VA community clinics in Minnesota and western Wisconsin.
Veterans must schedule an appointment through the Minneapolis VA Call Center at 612-467-1100.
Clinics start at 8:30 am and the last appointment is 3:15 pm. Veterans need to bring appropriate ID verification.
