The Mental Health Service Line (MH SL) at the Minneapolis VAMC offers a full range of inpatient and outpatient mental health services which are based on best practices and evidence-based interventions. Mental health services are available at the Minneapolis VAMC, as well as eight community-based VA clinics located in Maplewood, Rochester, Mankato, Chippewa Falls, St. James, Hayward/ Rice Lake, Hibbing, and Twin Ports. An additional clinic is scheduled to open in the Northwest Metro area in 2010. The Minneapolis VAMC also provides V-Tel mental health services.
The Mental Health Service Line has a full complement of services that address a wide range of mental health related concerns. Links to specific areas or problems can be found on the menu on the right side of this page.
We offer a range of services, including a 24-bed locked inpatient psychiatric unit, partial hospital level of care, intensive outpatient programming, Intensive Case Management community services, programming for the homeless, and general outpatient services.
The Minneapolis VA's affiliation with the University of Minnesota ensures that veterans have access to state of the art services. Through that affiliation, we provide training across the range of mental health disciplines including psychiatry, family practice, psychology, pharmacy, social work and nursing. It is not unusual for services to be provided by those receiving such training under the supervision of a licenced clinical staff member.
The VA has a strong commitment to providing services that have proven effectiveness. More information regarding the range of Evidence Based Treatments (EBT) can be found by clicking on the following link (EBT)
