photo of visitors at Minnehaha Falls near the Medical CenterThe Minneapolis VA Health Care System is located in south Minneapolis in the Nokomis East neighborhood near the Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport. Area landmarks include Lake Nokomis and Minnehaha Parkway and Creek.

The Mississippi river is close by and separates the cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul. The St. Paul City limits are about one mile east of the Medical Center.

Minneapolis is compact and easy to get around no matter the mode of transportation:

BY BUS 
Metro Transit bus fares range from $1.75 to $3.00, depending on time of day.

BY LIGHT RAIL 
the Hiawatha Line provides light-rail service to stations between Target Field in downtown Minneapolis and Mall of America, including the VA Medical Center. Tickets are sold at vending kiosks at the rail stations. Two bus routes (19 and 515) connect at the VA Medical Center Station. BY TRAIN
The Northstar Commuter Rail Line offers service from Big Lake to downtown Minneapolis. For more information, see the Metro Transit web site.  Beyond the metro area, Amtrak travels a major East-West line running from Chicago and the East to Seattle and Portland. BY TAXI
Taxi service is readily available. Downtown Minneapolis is approximately 16 miles from the airport, with fares averaging $34-$44. The distance to downtown St. Paul is approximately 12 miles and fares average $28-$34.
