Recreation Therapy Internship

Recreation Therapy internships are available in the following clinical areas:  Community Living Center/LTC/Palliative Care, Polytrauma/Acute Rehab, TBI/Polytrauma Transitional Rehab, In-patient Psychiatry, and Spinal Cord Injury and Disorder Center.  Students will be assigned one primary clinical area for their internship experience; however they will be given the opportunity to rotate through all areas where Recreation Therapy staff is assigned.  Internships must be completed in 480 hours (12 weeks) of “continuous and uninterrupted” field placement.

The current Recreation Therapy staff consists of 14 Certified Recreation Therapists and two board certified Music Therapists.  Recreation Therapy interns will be assigned a primary clinical supervisor who is a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist.  Intern students will be working some evenings and weekends as well as holidays, as needed.  Internships are without compensation.

Questions concerning internships may be directed to Carol Camden, CTRS, Lead Recreation Therapist at Carol.Camden@va.gov or by phone to (612) 467-3947.
