Minneapolis VA Opens New Surgery Center
On September 6, the Minneapolis VA Medical Center opened a new 28-room Surgery Center on Unit 2T, adjacent to the operating room suites. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on September 1.
All surgical patients will be processed through the Surgical Center prior to surgery, with outpatients being discharged from the Surgery Center after their procedures.
The state-of-the-art Surgery Center has expanded to over 7,000 square footage of patient care space.
In addition to increasing the number of private rooms from 17 to 28, additional space was added for special procedures, physician consults, equipment storage, and staff work areas.
A satellite outpatient pharmacy has also been recently completed and is adjacent to the Surgery Center. An opening date for the satellite pharmacy is pending.
The surgery center supports the current 18 operating rooms, in addition to the two hybrid operating rooms scheduled to open January 2017.
Minneapolis VA performs an average of 30-40 surgical procedures a day.
