The VA has adapted the Public Health Approach to preventing Veteran suicide and supports the national goal of reducing suicide in the U.S. by 20% by the year 2025. However, the VA alone cannot end Veteran suicide. Through a prevention framework that targets Universal, Selective, and Indicated strategies, this approach focuses on building coalitions within the community to support Veterans where they live, work and thrive.
