Minneapolis VA Celebrates National Veterans and Military Families Month

MINNEAPOLIS, MN (Nov 2, 2018) — The Minneapolis VA Health Care System (Minneapolis VA) is celebrating the second annual Veterans and Families Month in November with a series of patriotic ceremonies, outreach activities and public events.

  • November 5 – VBA (Veterans Benefits Administration) and VHA Claims Clinic, 9 am – 3 pm in first floor flag atrium of the Minneapolis VA Medical Center, located at One Veterans Drive, Minneapolis, MN 55417. 
  • November 11 – Minneapolis VA Leadership to participate in State of Minnesota Veterans Day Program at the Inver Grove Heights Armory.
  • November 11 – Chief Experience Officer Martina Malek to discuss customer service at the VA on Minnesota Military Radio Hour, which is broadcast on 56 commercial radio stations.
  • November 12 - Veterans Day Program, 2:30 pm, in first floor flag atrium of the medical center, with address by Major General (Ret.) George Steiner, US Army, and music provided by the 204th Army Band Ensemble.  Refreshments served.  Families invited.
  • November 12 – Special Veterans Day prime rib meal for hospitalized Veterans thanks to donations by the Military Order of the Purple Heart.
  • November 13 – Military Appreciation Night at Minnesota Wild hockey game featuring video of players visit to the medical center.
  • November 15 – Open House, 11 am – 1 pm, at Maplewood CBOC 1725 Legacy Parkway, Suite 100, Maplewood, MN 55109. Refreshments served.
  • November 18 – Minnesota Military Radio Hour to feature Minneapolis VA director Patrick Kelly.
  • November 19 – Town Hall Forum, 6-8 pm, in first floor auditorium of the medical center.  First hour will feature VHA leaders from Minneapolis VA and regional office; second hour, VBA and Fort Snelling National Cemetery leadership.

Beginning in 2017, President Trump proclaimed November Veterans and Military Families Month.

"For the staff of the Minneapolis VA, Veterans Day is everyday as we seek to provide the best care possible to our patients," said Director Patrick Kelly. "During the month of November, we are expanding our public efforts to bring awareness to the community through open houses, patriotic programs and media appearances. We also hope to engage Veterans who are eligible for care but not currently enrolled in services."
