Minneapolis VA Health Care System
General surgeons consult and perform surgery on medical conditions involving the abdominal wall (such as hernias), gallbladder, breast, endocrine system, gastrointestinal tract, colon, liver, and pancreas.
The Minneapolis VA section of general surgery features five surgeons who are committed to serving our nation’s Veterans. All five surgeons are board-certified by the American Board of Surgery, which means they have passed rigorous written and oral examinations.
Additionally, they all hold faculty appointment at the University of Minnesota and are actively involved in the education of future doctors. For that reason, medical students and surgical residents may be present during your visit. These trainees are always under the direct supervision of the surgical staff.
The surgical team at the Minneapolis VA works closely with other medical disciplines to provide a comprehensive approach for care of the surgical patient including specialized clinics and multidisciplinary conferences for treating obesity, gastrointestinal conditions, and breast disease. The surgeons perform a wide variety of operations. Many are performed with traditional open incisions. However, minimally invasive techniques involving laparoscopic or robotic instruments are often utilized to ensure the best possible outcomes for our Veterans.
A note from the surgeons: We are proud of the service we provide to our Veteran population and look forward to caring for your surgical needs!
